Dr. Julie Ayad
Psychologist
Dr. Ayad assists adults with a wide variety of concerns. She helps adults reduce their anxiety and manage their stress. She has experience working with adults who worry, have social anxiety, panic, OCD, or a phobia. She also assists adults who are struggling with low mood and depression. The adults she works with are managing a variety of life stressors such as relationship distress, illness, grief or stress in their job or at school.
Dr. Ayad has a particular knowledge and skill in assisting clients with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Best practices in the treatment of PTSD was the focus of her doctoral research. Julie integrates approaches from the latest research to assist people who have experienced trauma and provides the support and compassion her clients need. Her clients with PTSD experience a significant reduction in anxiety and other intense emotions that are negatively impacting their happiness and the ability to perform and enjoy activities in their daily lives.
Additionally, Dr. Ayad also has experience with individuals who are struggling with emotional dysregulation, interpersonal challenges, and those diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. She utilizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) by Dr. Marsha Linehan to assist her clients with these issues.
Dr. Ayad uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and aspects of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in her work with adults. She also teaches her clients mindfulness and the latest in neuroscience to assist her clients, where appropriate.
Julie brings warmth and compassion to her work with clients. She connects with clients, puts them at ease, and works collaboratively, at the client’s pace, to help them feel less anxious, happier and have a greater sense of well-being.
Julie completed her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Medaille University in Buffalo, New York and has a Psychology degree from McMaster University.
Julie is also a Certified member of the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CACBT) in CBT.
